Plants have always been a source of inspiration for me. I love everything about them. The way they grow, their unique design, their incredibly vibrant colors, seeing how their shapes change over time, all of these things energize me.
As much as I love taking pictures of architecture, people, and creating surreal imagery, nothing can really compare to the natural contours and details of plants. So often, when I'm at home, one of my plants will catch my eye and suddenly it's time to take pictures.
That's what happened with this series.
When I took these pictures, it was the most beautiful day outside. The sky was so blue and completely empty. The temperature was warm without being too hot. There was a slight breeze that passed through periodically as I sat on the front porch. It was peaceful, with only the songs of birds playing in the background.
As I enjoyed the moment, I was struck by the banana leaf plant in the yard. It stood tall and proud as its leaves reached for the sky. The bright, verdant green perfectly complemented the turquoise sky. Each leaf possessed so many angles, shapes, and textures. The way they all interacted with one another fascinated me.
I had to grab my camera and capture this perfect moment. I spent nearly an hour contorting myself around this plant trying to get every conceivable angle.
When it came time to edit the pictures, I wanted to focus on bringing out the breathtaking colors I fell in love with. Fortunately, the color of the sky bounced off of the shiny leaves, which allowed me to bring out some turquoise against the vibrant green.
Compared to my other work, this one just needed one of my custom Lightroom presets and some little tweaks on certain photos. The whole thing took about 5 minutes to edit.
Anyways, here are the results of my sudden streak of inspiration on that beautiful Sunday afternoon.
